Hole 1
464 430 390 357 Men: 4 Women: 4

A challenging starting hole with something for everyone. A drive to the top of the hill leaves a mid to long iron to the first of many elevated greens on the course.  If your tee shot finds trouble, recovery is complicated by a pond about 100 yards from the green and a marshy area to the left of the cart path.  Ranked by Washington Golf as one of the best par fours in the area.

Hole 2
467 440 430 430 Men: 4 Women: 5

The number one handicap hole, and the longest par four on the course.  The landing area kicks the ball to the left, so take advantage of the generous landing area to the right.  The pond cuts into the fairway from the left, but is out of range for all but the longest drivers.   The approach plays uphill to a narrow, elevated green protected by bunkers on both sides.  The only safe place to miss is short, leaving an uphill chip.  Perhaps the hardest hole inside the Beltway!

Hole 3
330 314 314 250 Men: 4 Women: 4

A shorter par four, but don't get complacent.  The elevated tee makes the fairway seem narrower than it really is.  The second shot is from an uphill lie with a short iron.  Keep the ball short of the hole or you'll be faced with the hardest two-putt on the whole course.  An easy hole if played smart.

Hole 4
185 174 174 120 Men: 3 Women: 3

A tricky par three with bunkers surrounding the long green. Pay attention to the hole location, as the green runs at an angle and requires careful shot selection.  Most players are seen trying to avoid the cavernous bunker on the right.  However, the left side is no bargain either, leaving a downhill chip from deep rough or sand.

Hole 5
425 401 355 355 Men: 4 Women: 4

One of the widest driving holes on the course.  Favor the left side, as it offers the best approach to the elevated green.  The hole usually requires at least a mid-iron into the green, making it difficult to hold.  As with much of the course, your best option may be to bounce it up through the fringe.  The green slopes from back to front and right to left.

Hole 6
422 399 383 383 Men: 4 Women: 4

A long, uphill par four.  The tee shot requires both accuracy and distance to avoid the fairway bunker and leave a reasonable shot into the green.  Avoid the temptation to go over it - it's farther than it looks!  Take an extra club on the second shot, two if the pin is in the back of the green!  Very few golfers get the ball to the hole from this fairway.  Once on the green, you are better off to the left, putting back up the hill.

Hole 7
360 346 346 335 Men: 4 Women: 4

A short, straight par four with a blind tee shot.  There's more room to the right than you think, and the woods on the left come into play quickly if you can drive it over 250 yards.  It is often best to lay up and leave a full shot into the green, as it slopes from front to back and is usually very firm.  The "Mickey-Mouse" bunker in the front is no fun, so avoid it at all costs.  One of the most difficult greens on the course to read, take your time and you'll leave with an easy par.

Hole 8
133 120 112 110 Men: 3 Women: 3

The shortest hole on the course, the eighth was made trickier when the tornado of 2001 knocked down several trees that used to frame the green.  Now the pond appears to be more in play - don't let it bother you.  Take one less club for the elevation change and just go for the middle of the green.  Left is the worst place to miss.  The bunker shot is blind and difficult to stop.  Probably the flattest green on the course, this hole sees a lot of two's.

Hole 9
515 480 461 350 Men: 5 Women: 4

Finally, the first par five.  Although it is only 500 yards, it plays uphill and is generally into the prevailing wind.  The lake shouldn't be in play, so keep it out of your mind.  The two fairway bunkers are well placed to catch a lot of tee shots.  If you decide to go for it in two, beware of a hidden bunker about 40 yards short and left of the green.  It's one of the hardest shots on the course.   If you decide to lay up, keep you ball outside of 100 yards to avoid the two bunkers by the cart path.  The green is fairly simple, but if you miss an easy one, you may have to endure hecklers on the balcony!

Hole 10
416 392 377 371 Men: 4 Women: 4

The tenth has a wide corridor and appears easy at first, but bunkers on either side of the fairway are waiting for missed tee shots.  Although the approach is downhill, the shot tends to play the correct distance due to the size of the green and it's false front.  There's plenty of room to bail out on the left, but several small mounds on the back and right of the surface will send wayward shots into the hazard.

Hole 11
240 175 175 160 Men: 3 Women: 3

This hole can be a monster from the back tee.  Most players will be hitting woods, even drivers, into the green.  Don't miss left!  Trees, bushes, the cart path, and a creek will all be waiting for you, and will likely result in a double.  The best shot is one that runs up the right side, leaving an easy up-and-down or two-putt.  One of the deepest greens on the course, make sure you hit your first putt if it's uphill.

Hole 12
401 380 351 314 Men: 4 Women: 4

A tricky par four requiring two well-executed shots.  The tee shot is out of a chute of trees.  If you can't fade the ball, a 3 wood may be the best option.  The second shot is to a shallow, elevated green.  It is essential to get the distance right.  A short approach can roll back down the hill, and a long shot leaves a delicate downhill chip.  Try to leave the second shot to the left of the hole for an uphill putt at 3.

Hole 13
515 483 454 454 Men: 5 Women: 5

Tough par 5, with the fairway sloping severely to the right.  You must take it down the left side to keep the drive in the short grass.  The second shot is tight - consider hitting an iron if you know you can't get there in two.  Another narrow green that slopes steeply from back to front, making club selection critical.  If the pin is in the front, you may be better off chipping up than putting from behind the hole.

Hole 14
230 216 172 165 Men: 3 Women: 3

Yet another challenging par three.  Bunkers guard both sides of the long peanut shaped green.  Take at least one extra club for a back pin location.  Shots that land short and left tend to bounce up on the green, while anything to the right just goes farther right.  The green is trick to read.  The middle portion breaks to the right, although it is difficult to see.  Par here is a good score any day.

Hole 15
355 336 336 336 Men: 4 Women: 4

Relatively short par four, the fifteenth starts a stretch of three good birdie holes.  The fairway bunker is 100 yards from the green, so plan your tee shot accordingly.  You can run out of room on the right side, so a 3 wood may be a good choice.  The right side of the green is very flat and accessible, but if the pin is tucked behind the left bunker, just take your medicine and go for the middle.

Hole 16
511 483 465 410 Men: 5 Women: 5

A reachable par five, but can be tricky off the tee.  If you're long, go ahead and try to carry the fairway bunker, but watch out for overhanging limbs on the right.  The safe play is well left of the trap, setting up a fairway wood from the crest of the hill.  Not much trouble on the second shot, so focus on leaving an easy third.  The green is wide, but make sure you clear the false front or you'll be faced with a testy chip.

Hole 17
335 310 310 280 Men: 4 Women: 4

Ranked as the easiest hole on the course, the seventeenth is all about the tee shot.  A gentle draw is ideal and will take advantage of the slope of the hole.  When the ground is firm, many players try to drive the green.  The second shot is short, but is made more difficult by the downhill lie.  This is a rare hole where you can bounce up an iron shot if you have to.  Don't be fooled when putting across the green - it's flatter than it looks!

Hole 18
455 440 420 345 Men: 4 Women: 5

A monster of a finishing hole, you'll need everything in the bag for this one.  Not much trouble to speak of, just "grip and rip".  Even if you do find the fairway, you'll still be left with a long approach, often over 200 yards.  Aim for the mound behind the green to take the right side out of play.  The green is large, but it is also unprotected from the wind.  Choose your club carefully.  If you walk away with a four, you should be very happy.
