Where We've Been... Almost 50 Years of Terrapin Golf
The University of Maryland Golf Course first opened for play in 1958, dedicated to the health and recreation needs of the University community.
Today, it continues to provide countless hours of outdoor recreation and enjoyment. Our clubhouse offers the perfect location for dinner parties, banquets, and professional meetings and conferences.
This challenging course was designed by George W. Cobb, long considered one of America's leading golf course architects. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends play more than 40,000 rounds annually on the 6,850-yard layout.
The course is open year round to the public, with amenities that include annual memberships, a driving range, short game facility, full-service golf shop, and locker rooms. After play, golfers can relax in our bar or enjoy a meal at Mulligan's Grill.
The University Golf Course has served as a training ground for PGA Tour player Fred Funk, former PGA Tour commissioner Deane Beaman, and continues to serves as a practice facility for the men's and women's golf teams.

Where We're Headed... The Golf Course Fund For Excellence
The University celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2006. The Terrapin pride and spirit sparked by this milestone has carried over to the golf course, and university officials and friends of the golf course have recognized the need to enhance and update the course and its associated facilities.
The golf course has not undergone a major restoration since its initial construction, and while the layout remains one of the best in the region, there is certainly a need to enhance and upgrade the overall conditions.
We are asking for your help in establishing the University of Maryland Golf Course Fund for Excellence. Our goal is to raise $6 million, which will elevate the golf course to the highest level of excellence. Our planned enhancements to the facilities include rebuilt greens and tees, upgraded irrigation and equipment, expanded practice facilities, an outdoor pavilion and more.
By becoming a Friend of the Golf Course (with a $1000 or more annual contribution), you are unequivocally stating that you want the golf course's legacy as a premier recreation facility to continue. There are also many naming opportunities available for specific areas of the golf facilities. For more information, please contact Terry Piper at (301) 314-9782 or e-mail tpiper@umd.edu |
