Golf Course Policies

 

The University of Maryland Golf Course is under the direction and supervision of the Division of Student Affairs.

The Golf Course is open to the general public.  Students, faculty and staff of the College Park campus receive a discount on green fees when they present a current identification card.  In addition, memberships are available to students, faculty/staff, alumni and members of the community.

 

Faculty/Staff Privileges

University of Maryland, College Park faculty and staff with University ID cards may use the course upon payment of green fees or by purchasing an annual membership.

Faculty/staff with annual memberships may join either Women's Golf Association or the Senior Men’s Golf Association on payment of the club dues. Associate member privileges for the spouse and minor children are available for a fee. Guests of members pay current guest green fees.

Emeriti faculty, regular retired staff and visiting scholars, with the proper ID, have the same privileges as regular faculty/staff.  

 

Student Privileges
Undergraduate and graduate students currently registered at the University of Maryland, College Park are eligible for student rates upon presentation of their current student ID. Dependent children of students may also play at the student rate.

 

Guest Privileges
Guests of the University may play at anytime on weekdays or weekends.  The established guest fee will apply.  Tee times may be reserved by calling the golf shop five days in advance.  Guests may also purchase an annual membership after joining the Maryland Tees.    

 

Starting Times
Golf Course members may reserve starting times by telephone or in person at 8:00 a.m. 12 days in advance, 7 days a week.  Non-members may reserve tee times 5 days in advance.

All players must register in the Golf Shop prior to starting play.  
 
The course offers a twilight green fee rate 7 days a week.  The twilight rate will be available off the first tee three hours before sunset.

 

Holidays
The following holidays are observed for the golf course:

New Year's Day (Golf Course closed), Dr. Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day (Golf Course closed).

 

Driving Range
The Driving Range is for the use of Golf Course members, University of Maryland students, faculty/staff and members of the university community.  The Driving Range opens thirty minutes before the first tee time and closes at dusk.

During the summer months, the Driving Range will close at 3pm on Sundays to allow for mowing.

Golf Carts

wo-person electric golf cars are available in the Pro Shop for a rental fee.  Golf Course members may rent a cart for 9 holes.

All drivers must adhere to the published daily “golf car rules.”  Failure to do so could result in the loss of rental privileges.  Golf cars may not be taken off the Golf Course.

 

Dress Code
Appropriate golf attire including a collared shirt must be worn at all times.  Mock turtlenecks and contemporary golf attire are allowed.

 

General Rules
Practicing is prohibited on the Golf Course. It is allowed only in the designated areas of the putting green and the driving range.

All play must start at the first tee unless approved by the Golf Shop staff.

All players must register at the Golf Shop and obtain a player's ticket before teeing off.

Players are required to REPLACE DIVOTS, RAKE SAND TRAPS, REPAIR BALL MARKS ON GREENS and help maintain the condition of the course. It is the players' responsibility to see that such repairs are made.

All players must respect signs directing foot and cart traffic on the course.

Privately owned single-bag powered and pull carts are permitted on the course provided rules and marked areas are observed.

No fivesomes are permitted on this course. Violators will have their playing privileges suspended.

A single player has no standing and should give way to a group of players. Any group playing a full round is entitled to pass a player playing a shorter round. If a group fails to keep its place on the course and loses more than one clear hole on the players in front, they must skip a hole until they are back in position.

The play on the golf course shall be governed by the rules of the United States Golf Association, except as modified by local rules which are posted in the Clubhouse.
 
In order to avoid possible accidents, the speed of automobiles on the road approaching and around the Clubhouse is limited to 10 mph. Automobiles must be parked only in the designated parking spaces.

Unauthorized persons playing the course will be asked to leave immediately.

The Golf Course and the University are not responsible for the personal property of golfers. Clubs and other personal property should not be left unattended in the parking lot, around the Clubhouse or on the course.

Non-playing spectators are not allowed on the Golf Course at any time.

With the exception of trained guide dogs, dogs are not allowed in the Clubhouse or on the Golf Course.
